This work is from a series started in Feb-Mar 2018 when Ramsay visited Thailand. She collected colors by photographing objects both natural and human made that caught her eyes.
Back at her studio in NY, Ramsay mixed the colors collected from her photographs with the aid of a computer program, to achieve the actual color, not one meditated by memory or personal preference.
The translucent Plexiglass support allows light to move through the paint film and the appearance of the painting shifts with time as the light in a room changes through the course of a day.
Debra Ramsay is an American abstract artist who creates acrylic paintings, drawings and installations that explore the conceptual interplay between color, line and surface. She lives and works in New York City.
