This painting emerged out of Werfel's new interest in Asian painting and calligraphy and her experiments with the white paper to create a spatial envelope.
Pieces of collage, both printed and hand painted shapes created spatial markers in the works in juxtaposition to the painted and drawn marks.
About the Artist
Gina Werfel is an American abstract painter whose work uses vivid color, lyrical gesture, and complex compositional structures to explore harmonies within visual space. Raised on Long Island, she currently lives and works near Sacramento, California, where she is a Professor of Art at the University of California, Davis.
