Jesús Perea is a multidisciplinary abstract artist living and working in Madrid, Spain. Along with Richard Caldicott, Luuk de Haan, and Pieter Bijwaard, Perea is a member of the contemporary abstract art collective Mother Universe.
Education
Perea earned his BA in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1994.

Technique
Perea maintains a multidisciplinary practice that includes painting, drawing, digital creations, and most recently a series of abstract sculptures and drawings made from deconstructed art books.
Whether employing digital techniques or more traditional methods like ink drawing, collage, and décollage, the main concerns in the work remain the same—Perea is hunting for images that hover between the past and the future; between the architectonic and natural worlds.
Perea believes in the rational structure that underlies the unexpected, and the emotional underpinnings of intelligence.
Beauty comes out in the work when he is able to synthesize these interconnected worlds.
Inspiration
Normally we speak of graphics in terms of the figurative world: graphic design, graphic novels, graphic elements—the word implies unambiguous content. However, Jesús Perea has developed a different type of relationship to the idea of graphics. His is an intuition for graphic abstraction.
Fluctuating between illustration and expressionism, connecting the geometric and biomorphic worlds, Perea communicates the subtle mathematical beauty of nature, creating works that communicate both structure and enigma.
His compositions evoke a sense of constant motion; even when they are complete they feel as though they are alive with potential.
The work is only really finished in the eye of the viewer, where it becomes a starting point for internal discoveries.

Exhibitions
Perea has exhibited in Spain, in addition to recent group exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK.
Artist Quote
“My work is a continuous process of searching for beauty through geometry, the synthesis of form, and architecture. I feel my work is very connected with music, and I identify with the creative process of a composer who sometimes finds simple melodies, and other times complex harmonic structures, while always seeking to transmit emotion.”
