Tecnica

Utilizzando mezzi come pennarelli, acquerelli e acrilici, Hallard costruisce immagini monocromatiche e semi-monocromatiche di forme geometriche riconoscibili come quadrati e rettangoli su carta e alluminio.

Il lavoro consiste spesso in forme semplici e gruppi di forme, e altre volte sfugge ai confini della linea e della forma.

Hallard tende a concentrarsi su opere che trasmettono precisione ed esattezza, mentre flirta anche con esplorazioni più libere di colore e forma, creando astrazioni geometriche più sperimentali che invitano a ulteriori livelli di interazione da parte dello spettatore.

L'artista lavora con i temi dello spazio e della geometria, manipolando immagini e disposizioni di oggetti per sfidare la percezione dello spettatore.

Il suo lavoro è profondamente radicato nei fondamenti della storia dell'arte, soprattutto costruendo sulle tendenze dell'astrazione, del minimalismo e degli artisti del campo colore.

Il lavoro mantiene anche una certa qualità umana, incorporando un senso di apertura e frivolezza che suggerisce una libertà sottostante dai limiti formali.

"I dipinti...sono meravigliosamente semplici. I bordi sono così distinti e i colori così vivaci che quasi ci portano in un territorio ottico. Alcuni dei suoi pezzi sono perfettamente simmetrici, eppure i confini si spostano mentre i nostri occhi scorrono da segmento a segmento, striscia a striscia, mentre il colore gioca piccoli trucchi sui nostri occhi. Sembra impegnarsi in un'astrazione simmetrica e dai contorni netti e poi, nell'istante successivo, creare un'opera...che sembra dire che sa che ci si aspetta che siano dipinti dai contorni netti, ma guarda? A volte non lo sono. E per dimostrarlo, colorerà al di fuori delle linee."
