FRENCH
Marie de Lignerolles is a French abstract artist whose work emphasizes line drawing and the use of color. She develops an artistic approach where color is used as a starting point to define the design and dimension in her creations. She lives and works in Toulon, France.

Education
Marie de Lignerolles pursued her studies in Applied Arts at Olivier de Serre school and later at the renowned French design school ENSCI-Les Ateliers in Paris. Following her education, she embarked on a professional journey working in various creative studios, including the famous fashion house Hermès. Her background in applied arts and her experience in different creative environments and prestigious brands significantly contribute to her expertise and the unique perspective she brings to her work as a designer, illustrator, and colorist.

Technique
Marie de Lignerolles' style emphasizes delicacy in composition and a sophisticated design sensibility. Her meticulous attention to materials and techniques indicates a deep understanding of craftsmanship, elevating her work in the realm of color. From 2017 onward, she shifted her focus towards a more personal direction in her artistic exploration, navigating the realms between design and drawing. This shift led her to create numerous gouache paper compositions, delving beyond the emotional impact of colors and the expressive nature of forms.
Inspiration
Her creations are structured around the notions of counter-form and void, which play a pivotal role in shaping her pieces. In her graphical compositions and tangible objects, she imbues significance into the void, considering it a presence within absence—a space that holds meaning. Amidst this exploration of voids, she remains dedicated to maintaining the presence of the line—a testament to the handcrafted origins of her creations. This line acts as a reminder, echoing the original act of creation. This artistic direction suggests a deeper contemplation of negative space and the interplay between form and absence. By emphasizing the significance of voids alongside the expressive power of colors and forms, Marie de Lignerolles continues to evolve her artistic language, infusing her work with philosophical and aesthetic dimensions.
