Russian Avant-Garde Exhibition at the Beyeler Foundation, Switzerland - By IdeelArt

The Beyeler Foundation, in Basel, Switzerland is currently holding an exhibition entitled “À la recherche de 0,10” which will run until 10 January 2016. It is curated by Matthew Drutt.

The Beyeler Foundation: 0.10, la dernière exposition futuriste

The exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the exhibition “0.10, la dernière exposition futuriste”, which took place in the city of Petrograd, Russia, (now St Petersburg) in the winter of 1915-1916 and displayed the work of 14 artists (half men, half women) of the Russian avant-garde movement.

During this exhibition, the artists showed groundbreaking work, with Kazimir Malevich displaying his Black Squarefor the first time, which has now become an iconic symbol of abstract art, and Vladimir Tatlin showing his pioneering geometric counter-relief sculpture that was free-standing and composed of recycled objects.

The exhibition at the Beyeler Foundation has gathered together works from the same period by contemporaries of the 14 artists. Various museums and artistic institutions have contributed financially to the exhibition, including the Musée national russe, St. Petersburg, Galerie d’État Tretiakov, Moscow, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, the MoMA, New York and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.

The Beyeler Foundation was founded in 1997 and is a private institution concerned with cultural and legal affairs based in Riehen, near Basel. It holds the modern and contemporary art collection of gallerist Ernst Beyeler and his wife Hildy. The Foundation is also holding an exhibition entitledd “Black Sun” running in parallel with “À la recherche de 0,10”, which explores Malevich’s work and his impact on contemporary art.
