Tinguely – Dernière collaboration avec Yves Klein

The Venet Foundation, situated in Le Muy, France, is hosting this solo exhibition dedicated to the works of Swiss artist Jean Tinguely until 30 September 2015. The foundation will present two major works by Tinguely, a founding member of the New Realism movement who is particularly renowned for his “useless machine” sculptures as well as his marriage to Nikki de Saint-Phalle.

Dernière collaboration avec Yves Klein

The main exhibited work, realized in 1988, gives its name to the exhibition, Dernière collaboration avec Yves Klein. Indeed, the artist collaborated with many of his counterparts, including Yves Klein, with whom he created machines that spun monochrome disks. Their meeting marks a turning point in Tinguely’s career, and this sculpture embodies the hommage that the artist wanted to make to the man who had greatly influenced his artistic practice.

The second major work, borrowed from Nice’s MAMAC, is entitled Relief bleu hommage à Schmela (1988). In addition to these two main works, the foundation is screening a film about their creator in a dining room featuring a table, eight chairs, and a light fixture designed by the artist for the Tinguely Café in Kyoto. Created in 2014 by the renowned French conceptual artist Bernar Venet in his four-hectare property in the village of Le Muy, in the Var department of France, the Venet Foundation aims to preserve the site, conserve the Collection, and ensure that his work lives on after him.
