Kyong Lee ist eine koreanische abstrakte Künstlerin, deren Arbeiten physische und emotionale Realitäten durch eine multidisziplinäre Erkundung von Farbe, Material, Prozess und Form versöhnen. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Seoul, Korea.

Ausbildung

Lee erhielt 1991 ihren Bachelor of Arts von der Hong-ik Universität in Seoul, Korea. Ihren Masterabschluss erwarb sie 2000 an der Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Braunschweig, Deutschland.
Von 2001 bis 2002 war sie die Künstlerin im Wohnsitzprogramm des international bekannten SSamzieSpace Studio Residence Program in Seoul, Korea.

Technik

Lee widmet sich der Präzision in ihren Prozessen. Sie plant ihre Farbwahl sorgfältig und widmet jeder Farbe eine feste Zeitspanne zum Mischen. Um ihre Farbverlaufsgemälde zu erstellen, schichtet sie zuerst Klebeband in Streifen über die Oberflächen. Jede Farbschicht wird über einen festen Zeitraum aufgetragen und darf dann für eine weitere feste Zeit ruhen. Dies ist ein Prozess des Aufbaus, Schichtens, Ansammelns. Die Abstufungen drücken Beziehungen zwischen Farben und Momenten aus. Einige ihrer Gemälde enthalten Text. Für diese Werke prägt Lee zuerst das Wort, das sie für das Stück ausgewählt hat, in die Oberfläche ein und trägt dann einen monochromen Farbton auf, der mit dem gewählten Wort korreliert und zusammenarbeitet. Die Farbe besetzt das Wort und füllt den gesamten Raum um es herum. Für Lee ist der Prozess poetisch und wesentlich für die Bedeutung des Werkes.

Inspiration

In ihrer Arbeit reagiert Lee auf ihre emotionalen Erfahrungen in ihrer physischen Umgebung. Farbe ist ihre primäre visuelle Sprache. Für sie ist Farbe nicht nur selbstreferenziell. Farbe steht auch in Beziehung zu emotionalen Zuständen. Es ist eine Möglichkeit, Gefühle auszudrücken, Gedanken zu projizieren und die natürlichen Prozesse des Lebens hervorzurufen. Lee ist inspiriert vom Fluss der Zeit und der Schichtung von Erfahrungen. Sie denkt über das Gedächtnis nach und darüber, wie sich ihre Sicht auf die Vergangenheit mit der Ansammlung von Zeit verändert. Sie interessiert sich auch für Automatismus. Durch unbewusste Prozesse hat sie Verbindungen zwischen verschiedenen Kommunikationsweisen hergestellt, wie zum Beispiel die Assoziation spezifischer Wörter mit bestimmten Farbtönen in ihrer Farbe als Adjektiv-Serie. Darüber hinaus beschäftigt sich Lee mit der Neigung des Planeten auf seiner Achse. Die Erde ist um 23,5 Grad geneigt, ein Zustand, der uns die Jahreszeiten so erleben lässt, wie wir es tun. Lee fragt sich, ob es hier eine Korrelation zwischen unserer falschen Annahme gibt, dass wir horizontal stehen, und anderen Annahmen, die wir machen, wie zum Beispiel unseren Annahmen über, wie sie sagt, "den Horizont der Emotionen".

Arbeiten von Lee befinden sich in mehreren öffentlichen und institutionellen Sammlungen, darunter die Seoul Museum of Art, das Youngeun Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst und das National Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Bank, Seoul, Korea.

Ausstellungen

Die Arbeiten von Lee Kyong wurden umfangreich in Solo- und Gruppenausstellungen in Korea und Deutschland gezeigt. Zu den jüngsten Soloausstellungen gehören Color as Adjective II in Chonan, Südkorea, und Feeling, Language and Color in Seoul.
