This monumental in-situ work was created by Kyong Lee as part of the 2011 Maeul Misul Project (Town Art Project). This national initiative, sponsored by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, was designed to revitalize rural villages and disadvantaged neighborhoods by transforming them into cultural destinations through public art.
This specific mural is located in Gasan-ri, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, South Korea.
Artistic Vision & Technique
The artwork covers an area of 60 m² and was executed using acrylic on structural panels. In this project, Kyong Lee translates her ongoing research into the materiality of color and emotional realities to an architectural scale.
True to her rigorous methodology, the artist employed meticulously planned color gradations to explore the relationship between hues and lived moments. For Lee, color is not merely self-referential; it serves as a visual language used to project thoughts and evoke the natural processes of life and the flow of time. The resulting luminous surface creates a dialogue between the rational structure of the building and the surrounding natural world.
Context & Execution
The total project duration spanned four months, from August to December 2011, encompassing a conceptual maturation phase followed by a swift in-situ technical execution of approximately two weeks.

Kyong Lee

近期個展包括在韓國天安市舉辦的Color as Adjective II,以及在首爾舉辦的Feeling, Language and Color。
