Gina Werfelはアメリカの抽象画家であり、その作品は鮮やかな色彩、叙情的なジェスチャー、複雑な構成構造を用いて視覚空間内の調和を探求しています。ロングアイランドで育ち、現在はカリフォルニア州サクラメント近郊に住み、カリフォルニア大学デービス校で美術教授を務めています。

Werfelはニューヨーク州クリントンにあるカークランドカレッジ(現在はハミルトンカレッジの一部)で学士号を取得し、その後ニューヨークスタジオスクールで大学院課程を修了しました。さらにニューヨークのコロンビア大学で美術修士号を取得しています。彼女は数々の名誉あるフェローシップや助成金を受けており、世界中の重要な学校や機関で美術教授、客員講師、アーティスト・イン・レジデンスとして卓越したキャリアを築いています。

技法

インスピレーション

Werfelは世界中で学び、教えてきました。彼女が触れてきた絵画的な風景の違い、例えば北カリフォルニアの丘と光の相互作用やフランス・ブルターニュの質感と色彩の間の変化にインスピレーションを見出しています。日常の経験が彼女の絵画にどのように影響を与えるかに興味を持っています。彼女は一日の早い段階で自発的なジェスチャーに触発され、その後スタジオからの眺めに導かれることもあります。最終的に彼女の構成は特定の何かを参照するものではなく、空間における光、透明性、色の特性の探求です。

「音楽のポリフォニーのように、Werfelの作品は複数の独立した“声”や源のテクスチャーで構成されています。彼女は複数の要素を重ね合わせて絵画の宇宙を創り出し、ジェスチャーの痕跡が記憶の断片やスタジオ内や窓の外の一瞥を示唆しています。Werfelは屋外での制作時に惹かれた風景の空間的複雑さを反映する構成を作り出します—転がる丘や水中の反射。しかし今では、断片は流動的で覆い隠された空間に浮かんでいます。」

展覧会

Werfelはアメリカ国内で多数の個展およびグループ展を開催しており、最近ではフランス・パリのアメリカン大学やニューヨーク市のプリンスストリートギャラリーで個展を行いました。
