Jessica Snow 是一位美国抽象艺术家,她的绘画和素描以色彩丰富且充满趣味的几何图形为特色。她不断追求每一幅新作都比上一幅更出色,激励她创作出轻盈地存在于世界中的画作,这些画面充满了隐喻的光线、空气、色彩、提升感和自由感。

教育背景

这位艺术家于1988年在加州大学戴维斯分校获得艺术工作室学士学位,1996年在米尔斯学院(加州奥克兰)获得美术硕士学位。她作为新生进入加州大学戴维斯分校时,开始选修艺术课程以及人文学科的其他课程,从那时起,她便一直在创作艺术作品。此外,她曾前往巴黎深造电影理论,但每天都在参观城市中的博物馆。虽然她曾考虑走更学术的道路,但她意识到学术界并不适合她——她本质上是一位艺术家。后来,她曾在斯科韦根绘画与雕塑学校度过一个夏天,随后进入米尔斯学院攻读研究生。她目前在旧金山大学教授绘画、素描和艺术史。

技法

作为一位多学科艺术家,她使用不同的媒介:在纸张、画板或墙面上作画时,她会使用丙烯颜料,而在画布或亚麻布上则使用油画颜料。她最近还尝试在Dibond(一种轻质铝制面板)上作画,结合使用油画和丙烯,有时在表面绘画时会用黑色细尖笔。...

在美学上,她希望画作看起来像是“自然而然发生”的,绘画时使笔触消失,层次变得难以察觉。她强烈倾向于创作看似本能且轻松的作品。她喜欢颜料尽可能稀薄,同时保持色彩饱和度,使其下方白色表面的光线能够渗透并增强色彩。她经过深思熟虑地并用尽量少的颜料并置色彩,以达到理想效果——既不过多,也不少。结构、形式、色彩和形状在Jessica的创作中都至关重要——她将俏皮的曲线、几何和线性形态与明亮的色彩结合。然而,她作品中的色彩并非随意选择;它们具有视觉重量、厚重感或轻盈感,在完成初步素描后,她努力使色彩在视觉上与她所依据的单色素描达到相同的效果。

“我认为我的艺术不断在秩序与混沌之间,或在有效系统与崩溃系统之间游走。这似乎就是我的思维方式……在秩序与混沌之间,在逻辑与情感之间。”

在巴黎学习期间,参观博物馆极大地帮助她理解绘画的语言以及每位艺术家独特的语法。她在塞尚、马奈、马蒂斯和梵高的画作前花费了无数小时。她的视觉艺术影响包括索菲·陶伯-阿尔普、索尔·勒维特、卢西奥·丰塔纳和埃尔斯沃斯·凯利。为了寻找灵感来源,这位画家多次前往伦敦、阿姆斯特丹、马德里、柏林和佛罗伦萨,她对弗拉·安杰利科的圣马可壁画尤为着迷。现居旧金山的她,最常前往洛杉矶或纽约观赏艺术作品。
