Matthew Langley è un artista astratto americano. È interessato a un equilibrio tra colore e processo, segno e campo, scala e relazione, pianificazione e improvvisazione. Vive e lavora a New York City.

Formazione

L'artista ha studiato alla Virginia Commonwealth University e si è laureato alla Corcoran School of Art nel 1986.

Tecnica

La tecnica di Matthew nella creazione delle opere deriva dalla costruzione e dall'estensione così come dalla riduzione e minimizzazione della superficie dipinta. Crede che questo non sia controproducente, e che spesso la strada da seguire sia costruire, ricostruire e ricominciare. Spesso questo impiega strati semi-trasparenti di pittura combinando la superficie sottostante dell'opera per raggiungere l'intento dell'artista.

Ispirazione

Il background artistico di Langley riguarda una vasta gamma di interessi. È esperto nella pittura Color Field—in particolare, opere di Morris Louis, Sam Gilliam e Gene Davis, così come l'astrazione di Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, Callum Innes tra gli altri. L'artista ha anche un grande interesse per la manipolazione fisica della pittura di artisti come Anselm Kiefer e Gerhard Richter.

L'artista con base a NYC ha esposto ampiamente in mostre personali e collettive negli Stati Uniti, principalmente sulla Costa Est.
