Russinofは1979年にシカゴ美術館付属美術学校で版画の学士号(BFA)を取得しました。1982年にはブルックリンのプラット・インスティテュートで絵画と版画の修士号(MFA)を取得しました。ニューヨーク州北部のYaddoとMillay Colony for the Artsでレジデンスを修了しています。

技法

Russinofにとって、すべては色から始まります。彼女は「色は自然の空間と光への窓を作り出す役割を果たす」と述べています。彼女はリリカルなジェスチャー的な筆致で色を塗り始めました。その筆致は構造、ゆるやかなグリッドへとまとまっていきました。層を重ね、色の関係性が進化し、深みが生まれ、形の感覚が示唆されました。もし構成がうまくまとまらなければ、すべてを削り落とし、解体の状態から再び始めました。彼女の構成は直感的でほとんどカジュアルに感じられますが、その過程は非常に意図的でした。Russinofは版画のバックグラウンドから絵画に進みました。様々な媒体、表面、プロセスを経て油彩キャンバスにたどり着きました。後期の制作は紙作品とキャンバス作品、小規模と大規模の作品を行き来しました。小さな絵画はアイデアを素早く試すことを可能にし、紙作品は新しい媒体や技法を試す機会を与えました。

インスピレーション

Russinofは目にしたものからインスピレーションを得ました:感覚的な反応として、絵具を通じて感情を物理的に表現することです。その最初の視覚的刺激はしばしば色に関連していました。作品の目的は見たものを模倣したり、その感覚を捉えたりすることではありませんでした。むしろ、彼女は探求に触発されました;何が起こるのかという神秘;濡れた絵具の層がどのように相互作用するかを見るまでの緊張感。彼女はしばしば複数のキャンバスを同時に制作し、不安げな遊びの環境に導かれながらイメージからイメージへと進み、捉えどころのない何かを引き出そうとしました。彼女は目を引くために必要なものだけを加え、イメージが混沌とする前に止めるという挑戦に動機づけられていました。

Russinofは2016年のカタログのために次のように書いています:

「私の現在のイメージは、床に置いたキャンバスに油絵具を注ぎ、引きずるという決断から進化しました。そのイメージは格子やゆるやかなグリッドを想起させ、やや後に、キャンバスと筆が大きくなるにつれて、より中心化されたパターンが現れました。構造は新しい形で現れました:筆致の自発性と絵具のゆるさのバランスを取るために、フレームが現れ、その中心にジェスチャー自体のような形がありました。」
