展示多重視角的藝術
當一幅畫由兩個面板組成時，可以被視為雙聯畫。這個詞來自晚期希臘語 diptukha（兩塊書寫板）或 diptukhos（對摺）。雙聯畫的傳統可追溯數世紀，並涵蓋大多數視覺文化。畫家經常使用多個面板來講述宗教或歷史敘事。抽象藝術家利用這種方法有多種原因，包括象徵性地使用，或作為強調形式美學關注的方式。有時雙聯畫由鉸鏈或摺痕連接；有時則由兩個面板並排懸掛，但沒有正式連接。當一幅畫由三個面板組成時，可以稱為三聯畫。當面板超過三個時，可以稱為多聯畫。
